THE PRESENT PERFORMER
In The Present Performer workshop, Deborah focuses on the performer who is capital P ‘Present’ - in the space and in the moment. The work is physical and builds focus, concentration, rigour and commitment. Special attention is paid to create awareness of the lower body and its relationship to the floor. Voice and text are interwoven into the training. It also includes approaches to generating performance material.
Deborah draws on her extensive training in a range of performance methodologies from Asian and European traditions.
They are a blend of essential elements from each discipline including:

• Training in the Furan language of iconic Spanish company La Fura del Baus with director Younes Bachir ,
• Rasa box training and her experience working with Richard Schechner and as a performer/core ensemble member of the promenade performance ‘Imagining O’ in New York (2014).

SUZUKI TRAINING
In this workshop Deborah introduces the participants to the Suzuki Actor Training method. Deborah trained with Tashashi Suzuki in Japan and has been teaching the training from many years in Australia and internationally.
The Suzuki Training is rigorous and highly physical. It is based on a series of exercises, including the famous ‘stomping’, that develop awareness of the centre of gravity, lower body and feet – and the relationship to the floor – and builds a rich internal sensibility. The training nurtures concentration, focus, commitment, stillness, presence and imagination in the performer. The work develops tools to create a performer who is ‘present’ in the space and in the moment.
