The Leah Goldberg Variations - a theatrical, musical, visual performance piece celebrating the life and work of Leah Goldberg - the celebrated (but not so renowned – we want to change this!) woman pioneer of modern Hebrew poetry. It is a story of a woman who suffered hardship, reinvented herself and travelled from Kovno to Berlin and Tel-Aviv to eventually become an iconic literary persona. In this work Leah Goldberg’s poems and diaries are used to reanimate her spirit in an evocative performance work that intertwines live cello, visuals, film footage and the spoken word to create a total theatrical experience.
Leah Goldberg stood out as a literary icon. Her poems, many of which were turned into songs, are embedded in Adi’s childhood memories. We have researched both her work and documents of her life events in order to get a broad picture of her personality, focusing on the artist in her, her muse and people who had driven her to become who she was. |
